Novena for Poetic Souls Day 7

My heart is pretty much stalled today. Each time I attend Mass on the weekends, it gets harder for me. To counteract that, today I gave my sketch to the mother who sat in the pew in front of me. Besides the Host and the Chalice, which I almost always draw, I had attempted a sketch of her baby, hanging on to her, trusting her. I wrote "God Bless You Mom!"

Counteracting the pull of despondency, the tug of discouragement, the trap of complacency in "not fitting in". A person can get oddly used to not being worth anything.

From childhood, some of us are taught that poetry, art, music other than church or folk, has no practical place in life. Sometimes we are told how lazy we are, even as adults, the corporate society we live in deems poetic souls unprofitable.....until they can find a gimmick to make one profitable.

Decision making time. It isn't merely one of following the Poetry vs. following Profitability, it is also about: How do I keep myself from being mired down in that nasty place in between the two?

Prayer:



Dear Jesus, I speak directly to You today. You knew King David's Psalms intimately. You knew David. You knew him in his singing to Jehovah, in his victories, in his sins, in his sorrows, in his steadfast faith in God's Poetic Love. Thank You, Jesus, for Your poetic death...Beauty In The Midst of Hopeless Devastation. And, more importantly, thank You for the gift of Resurrection's Poetic Symphony. May the musical hearts of St. Brigid and Thomas Merton echo God's poetry to us all. Amen.
