Novena for Poetic Souls Day 5
Note: I am having a minor meltdown...been bumped off the net twice while doing this entry. The first time I was bumped, I had the whole entry finished, was previewing, and the whole thing got wiped out.
However, that is nothing compared to a few friends of mine who are dealing with loss and grief this week. This entry is in honor of them, and all who are dealing with personal pain while others around them are busy pursuing their own happiness. Not that we can't pursue happiness, although I personally don't believe in that, I just want to point out how the person next to us can be experiencing overwhelming grief at the same time we are experiencing overwhelming joy.
By the way, the reference in the title of the poem is horribly taken out of context, 2 Timothy 4:2, but, I like the poetry of the idea of plodding along...no matter what happens, or, at least attempting the plod.)
Prayer:
Source of All Poetry,
You who dwell in inexpressible Light, You who came to us as Immanuel and experienced our humanness, please wrap Your poetry around the souls who mourn this day, may its music bring soothing rhythms to their hearts, and may a melody of hope play in that intersection where You and their spirits meet.
Through the Jesus who both St. Brigid and Thomas Merton knew.
Amen.

In and Out of Season
No rain for days
And days
And days.
Warm weather in January
With no rain.
Wind
Dust
Fire
Death.
Turtles congregate on the logs
In the dwindling river
While trees bud out of season
Even with no rain.
Death comes out of season,
The fog around us makes no sense,
And,
Then--
It rains.
