Crossless
He took my
Cross,
Leaving me a
Crown
That wasn't mine.
"He's entrusted you
With a new task",
Said the hooded desert dweller,
"You've carried that
Cross
Too long.
He asks you now to carry
His Crown."
Then he disappeared like a mirage,
Only, the Crown was still there.
"What am I supposed to do
With a Crown?"
I hollered to the desert air,
"Everyone else is carrying
A Cross,
What will they think
When I show up with this shiny Crown?
I can't go to Holy Week with
This--
I need my Cross
Back!"
I stood there
Yelling at the desert air,
But that Crown just gleamed in the sun.
